A front entrance is one of the first things people notice about a home. For this Guelph homeowner, the existing entry system consisted of a double door flanked by two narrow side windows, separated by structural framing and interior drywall. While functional, the design felt dated and limited the visual impact of the home's entrance.

The homeowner wanted a more modern, elegant appearance while improving security, energy efficiency, and overall curb appeal. To achieve that vision, our team at Tricity Windows & Doors completely redesigned the opening and installed a beautiful black fiberglass double door system with matching sidelights.

This project involved far more than simply replacing a door. It required structural modifications, custom framing, and careful finishing to ensure the final result was both beautiful and built to last.

The Existing Entrance

The original entrance featured a double door with narrow side windows on both sides. Interior drywall and exterior framing separated the three sections, creating a segmented appearance that made the entry feel smaller than it actually was.

Although the

was still functional, the overall design lacked the grand appearance the homeowner was looking for.

Creating One Large Opening

To achieve the desired look, our team removed the existing framing that separated the door and sidelights. Because this modification affected the structure of the opening, we installed a new engineered beam spanning the entire width of the entrance.

We also rebuilt the wood framing behind the opening to ensure proper load distribution and long-term structural integrity.

This step allowed us to transform three individual sections into one seamless opening capable of accommodating a larger and more impressive entry system.

Installing the New Fiberglass Entry System

The homeowner selected a black fiberglass double door system with matching sidelights and SDL grills.

The new design instantly created a more luxurious appearance while allowing additional natural light into the foyer.

The fiberglass construction provides exceptional durability, low maintenance requirements, and excellent resistance to Ontario's changing weather conditions.

Enhanced Security with Multi-Point Locking

In addition to improving the appearance of the home, the new entry system significantly upgraded security.

The doors were equipped with a multi-point locking system that secures the door at multiple locations along the frame. This creates a tighter seal, improves energy efficiency, and provides enhanced protection compared to traditional single-point locking systems.

Professional Installation and Finishing

As with every Tricity installation, the new entry system was carefully levelled, shimmed, insulated, and spray foamed to maximize performance.

The exterior was completed with new brickmould and custom aluminum capping. The header was capped to match the door colour, creating a consistent and elegant appearance.

Inside the home, we installed primed colonial trim to provide a clean, finished look that complemented the home's interior.

The Final Result

The transformation completely changed the appearance of the home.

By combining three separate openings into one seamless entry system, the entrance now feels larger, brighter, and significantly more elegant. The black fiberglass doors, matching sidelights, SDL grills, and custom finishes create a dramatic focal point that greatly enhances curb appeal while improving security and energy efficiency.

This Guelph project is an excellent example of how thoughtful design and proper structural modifications can completely transform a home's entrance.
